Familienbeihilfe Austria - What you need to know

You can receive family support in Austria whether you are already receiving material assistance in Poland or not. However, it's important to remember that the family support from Austria will be reduced by the amount of benefits received in Poland. You can apply for this benefit up to 5 years retroactively.

You do not need to be registered in Austria. However, since 2019, regulations regarding the amount of provided benefits have changed to the disadvantage of Poles. This is known as "benefit indexation," which reduced the amount of family support in Austria for children living in countries like Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, or Bulgaria. This adjustment aims to align the benefit amount with what is provided in the country where the child resides. Children living in Austria will continue to receive the same benefits regardless of their origin. This provision regarding the indexation of family support in Austria has sparked controversy, and even the European Union has intervened in this discriminatory regulation.
